Ouranopoli

There are boats that you can rent for a one-day trip to the eastern peninsula of Athos on a daily basis. The natural landscapes of Athos are remarkable. The imposing Mount Athos is a huge cone of 2.033 m., full of age-long trees. You can make a tour of the peninsula and admire Agion Oros monasteries and even visit Ouranopoli by boat.

Ouranopoli is a picturesque village which perfectly combines mountainous and sea features. You can taste fresh fish in the picturesque fish taverns of Agion Oros’ bay, walk or have a coffee at the beach where you can relish the beautiful sunset. Above Ouranopoli’s port, there is Andronikos’ tower, the legendary guard of Agion Oros, built in 1344 by Vatopedi monastery in order to be protected by the pirates. At this place, you can take a ferry boat, boat or rented speed vessel so as to visit the exotic beach and the rest of the islets (Gaidouronisi, Tigani, Pontiki) situated across Ouranopoli or Agion Oros’ monasteries.
